2024-2025 Team

Ignite Innovation, Propel Sustainability

Our mission is to engage STEM students in the challenges of space sustainability.

World’s first landing of a biofuel-powered rocket.

It is impressive to see what promising innovations the RISE team has already developed.
— President of VU Amsterdam, Mirjam van Praag (2023)

A ground-breaking project where 34 STEM students will work towards one common goal:

Land the first rocket vehicle with green propulsion.

Who are we?

RISE is a student team from the University of Twente and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. We work on problems in the space sector that need changing to sustain human activity in space. We do this by engaging STEM students in multidisciplinary projects.

Rocket Reveal

April 2025

Our ‘tester’ rocket will be finished and ready to be revealed in April 2025. The main purposes of this rocket are to flight-prove and collect data by flying the next-generation flight computer, and testing out recovery hardware (such as parachute designs and deployment mechanisms).

Clean-Space Challenge

Space debris poses a serious threat to current and future spacecraft. With space missions becoming more frequent, the chances of generating more space debris increases. RISE is hoping to contribute to solving this issue in the future by organizing our own clean space challenge, in doing so, the team aims to promote innovation amongst young minds, where new ideas to clean space debris can be born. Learn more about the challenges of space sustainability on our Clean-Space page.
